Wicked Spell fits those situations where somebody has a hold on you that is difficult to explain. You know the person may bring trouble; you have probably told yourself to stay away, yet one message or one look is enough to pull you back in. It is that familiar battle between what you know and what you want.

The production carries a dark dancehall edge, with the bass giving the beat some weight while the melodic parts sit behind Masicka’s voice. He does not oversell the emotion. His delivery stays controlled, which actually makes the subject feel more believable because it sounds like somebody admitting what is happening instead of trying to make a big scene out of it. The instrumental also leaves breathing room around the vocal, so the lyrics do not get buried underneath layers of sound.

The interesting part is that the “spell” does not have to be anything mysterious. It can simply be chemistry that refuses to disappear. Most people have experienced that one person they know they should probably avoid but somehow cannot completely leave alone. That push and pull gives the record its real point, and it is easy to recognise once you have been there yourself.
